Individual Education Plan

  • It is best to look at IEPs as a support, IEPs are separate and we don’t evaluate on them

  • Report cards/Written Updates are always in relation to the learning standards of the curriculum

  • Students with IEP supports and goals NOT related to the curriculum are still assessed with the learning standards

  • If the behavior is impacting the student’s academics, this would be stated in the comments/feedback but the student is still assessed with learning standards

  • Students with IEP supports that have all or some goals related to academic areas -are still assessed to the learning standards of the curriculum ex. Student in grade 6, working towards IEP goals in grade 2 math, would then be emerging on the report card but the key here is to explain the growth and progress if they are not meeting grade level in the comments and conversations with families and the school team

Individual Education Plan

If students are on a modified program ex. In grade 6 studying government and this student would not be able to access this kind of learning, the only requirement for this student that would have an IEP as well, is to include a comment within the area of learning on what learning they access (comment is the only mandate)

A note on ELL

Same goes for ELL students -if the language is impacting their ability to demonstrate their learning, only a comment is required until the language is no longer a barrier to demonstrate learning
